Looking around the BBC site, as we’re all prone to do I guess, I noticed this row of buttons at the bottom of a news item.

Bbc

Quite simply  - they get it.

The BBC just "get it"!

Amazon.com has redesigned their primary navigation. As it is being tested, only some users get to see the new navigation and UI right now. However, Amazon have a "remodel" page where they go through the changes and display a screenshot. It seems like a definite improvement to me. There is a nice feature where the logo turns into a button with a Home link when you rollover it.

Gadget_2

Google is moving into the widget ads business. They launched Gadget ads this week, which will allow marketer funded widgets to run on the Adsense network.

You can see examples of some trial widgets Google have uploaded in their gadget ads gallery. There are tools and tutorials a plenty available here. It seems like Google are making a real push into rich branded advertising with this. Am sure that the help and assistance they are offering will be looked at suspiciously by ad agencies.

The Yahoo design pattern library has been reorganized and updated with lots of new patterns. It is more than ever an invaluable resource for documenting rich interaction design. It is the first place that I go for information on interaction consistency and how to communicate these patterns to others.

Get Satisfaction is crowdsourcing customer service. It is in their words "people powered customer service"

"Get Satisfaction is part
online discussion, part FAQ, and part social network for all your
products and services. Anyone can ask a question, submit an idea or
problem, or just talk. And it’s all public, so anyone can answer—even
the companies."
